Well as some of you may know, a new version of Supermodel just came out a few days ago. This emu allows us to play Sega Model 3 arcade games at pretty much full speed!
Anyway it's the racing games I'm more interested in. Bart has not added cabinet link functionality yet, but it's something he hopes to eventually get in there. And when that happens, I'm hoping DG will find a way to work his magic and add Supermodel to MameHub!
Can you imagine the day when 16 of us can start up a 16-player online race in Daytona 2 via MAMEHub? I don't think my heart could take it. Just the *thought* of it has me on the brink of collapse!
DG what do you think about the Model 3 games and have you ever played any of them?

DG what do you think about the Model 3 games and have you ever played any of them? (1) Games like Scud Race, Daytona USA and Doom are LAN network based games. MAMEhub does not support LAN network based games. It does multiplayer gaming in a completely different way. (2) Multi-cab racer cabs are linked together via fibre optic cables. A 1000Mbps LAN network (that is a 1gig-a-bit card required in your computer) is fast enough to run model 2 or model 3 emulators properly for multiplayer gaming, and is the typical speed of home or office networks today. If you have an internet download speed of 20Mb, that equates to only 24Mbps. Yes, your Internet download speed is really that slow compared to a home or office LAN network. (3) Do you see the problem now? ..this also goes for Ridge Racer, Virtua Racing etc, etc. The reason Outrunners works is because it's running off a single machine (single CPU). Keeping 2 computers in frame sync is completely different to sending and receiving real time positional data of 30+ race cars. Modern computer games have been fully optimised to run over our slow internet speeds. It's like the game Doom. If the source code was never made available, it would never have worked over the Internet. Therefore, the issue is not can MAMEhub do this or not, the issue is it's impossible to have LAN (that is high speed bandwidth) games running 1/50th of their original speed over the Internet, and still be playable. The best we can ever hope to see is: (1) Providing LAN network support for these type arcade games for home or office LAN parties. I am very much for this, in particular, 1st generation arcade LAN games such as Ridge Racer 2 and Virtua Racing. (2) Daytona USA Sega Saturn + Virtua Racing Sega 32X both online (in theory, any console racer up to N64/PSX class hardware online). My favourate arcade game of all time is : Virtua Racing, followed closely by Scud Race !!!

Just had an idea on how a 2 player game could work in theory, for 1st generation multi-cab arcade racing games. NOTE: this will not happen any time soon, if ever !!!The host user would have to run 2 instances of CSMAME. This in theory at least, would be the only way it could work. For it to ever possibly happen, MAMEdev would have to add support to MAME to allow 2 instances of MAME (on same computer) to talk to each other for the LAN comms. UpdateHmmm. Maybe the MAMEhub model (or any online emulator) is not suited to keeping 60fps in sync, should ideally be player position data only for these type games (which is impossible without original source code). I guess we will find out for sure when PSX emulation has matured, and we try and run games like Ridge Racer. Be interesting to see if it can cope with all that frame data being passed between players. My hunch is it will not work well at all, but that's not the fault of MAMEhub, it's the physical speed limit of our Internet connections. Let's wait and see on the progress of PSX in MESS.......

MAMEHub doesn't sync the game data except to fix desyncs. MAMEHub only syncs the inputs, so it doesn't matter whether you are playing ridge racer or an RPG, it should still work fine.

Very very good replies Zambr and DG. That sheds some light on things. OK several comments I'd like to make..... 1)I'm hoping we can setup some matches for OutRunners one day because I love that game as well. 2)I don't remember but does either Ridge racer Type 4 or Rage Racer support LAN play? If not, wouldn't it be awesome if someone could hack those games to support it? I would love love LOVE to be able to play those two games in CSMESS. What is the current status of PSX emulation via MESS? Do those game run bad? 3)Regarding Daytona USA...the console ports just came out a few days ago. They are fantastic ports and are arcade perfect. It's bittersweet for me however, because my steering wheel does not support either PS3 or Xbox. So I'm stuck playing Daytona with a pad. BUT....4)With that having been said, Zambr are you aware that you CAN in fact play multiplayer Daytona USA via Model 2 emulator over the internet using Hamachi? I hear the results are fairly decent. Check out this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyd1VSyf-2cwww.youtube.com/watch?v=75JyAcJPXbQ&feature=relatedI just need to figure out how to set up Hamachi. Then we can play. I think if this can be done via Hamachi, then perhaps DG can maybe create a way for MAMEHUb to simulate the same methods Hamachi uses to emulate LAN play. Is this feasible? 5)On a side note, if you have OutRun 2006 Coast to Coast for the PC, we can play that via Hamachi as well since it has LAN support.
