MAMEHub Hash File FAQ:
1. What are hash files?
Hash files are text files located in mamehub\hash\*.hsi. They contain the names and checksums of many console ROMs.
Hash files are part of MESS and are used to assemble "software lists". See mess.redump.net/mess:files:hsi for more information.
2. What is the purpose of the hash files?
MAMEHub uses them to identify known ROMs during the audit process.
During auditing, MAMEHub will list successful checksum matches found within its configured ROM paths into the Game List window.
Example entry from the snes.hsi:
3. Does MAMEHub utilize MESS for console game play?
Yes. MAMEHub utilizes a derivative of MESS .141 known as CS-MESS (vmess.exe).
See Digitalghost's blog for more information.
4. Why aren't there hash files available for every possible console system yet?
Hash files are community supported.
5. What can I do to help?
Generate and submit practical .hsi files for review. If approved by Digitalghost, it is likely that your .hsi file will be included in MAMEHub.
note: The .xml files located in mamehub\hash do not work with MAMEHub.
All of my posts in the FAQ section are from the perspective of a MAMEHub tester and do not necessarily represent Digitalghosts views.
Only Digitalghost provides the final word on MAMEHub.
