I try to join or host a game and the same thing happens, I get a black dos and after 3 minutes I get an empty notepad pop up. I forward my ports like in the youtube video but I get the same results. If it helps I have Windows XP.

If it helps I have Windows XP. To try: (1) Temporally turn off your firewall (2) Log into MAME Hub (3) Try and join an exisiting game Recommended a basic game which is known to work first, such as 1943 or Bubble Bobble. If i'm about, i'll test this with you myself. Let me know if it worked for you or not here

We established its not a connection problem, but a problem running games in single player. Looks like something has messed up the rom path settings.
Next thing to try :
(1) uninstall mame hub
(2) Install again, this time to default folder, dont change folder at all
(3) After install, Login (and DO NOT click on set directories).
(4) Try and join an existing game.
I know it sounds crazy, but this might actually work. We have exhausted all other options now.

I've seen this bug before if you use non-ascii characters in your directories.

It works. I done it that way and it works with firewall on which is much safer for playing as you can't get a virus whilst playing an online game that way.
